Mary J. Blige Fires Back After After Backlash for Hillary Clinton Interview

ABC/ Lou RoccoMary J. Blige is telling critics to “shut the f*** up” after facing online ridicule for her interview with Hillary Clinton on Mary’s upcoming Apple Music show, The 411.

In the teaser for the new show, Blige is seen singing Bruce Springsteen‘s American Skin (41 Shots) to Clinton as she reaches out to clasp her hand.

The song is about the 1999 New York City police shooting death of black immigrant Amadou Diallo, who was unarmed.

After the clips hit online, some social media users criticized Blige’s decision to sing to Clinton about police brutality.

Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton tweeted, “Why is she singing the questions?? Not just singing, BELTING! So bizarre,” while another user wrote, “That Mary J Blige/Hillary Clinton commercial is so cringeworthy & I felt secondhand embarrassment.”

In a now deleted tweet that was captured by the NY Daily News, Mary addressed the backlash head on.  “EVERYBODY SHUT THE F*** UP!!!!!! #takethat #Haters #crabinabarrel #simpleminded #411,” she wrote.

The 411 With Mary J. Blige is set to debut Sept. 30.
