Stevie Wonder's “Songs in the Key of Life” Celebrates Its 40th Anniversary

Motown RecordsOne of Stevie Wonder‘s most celebrated albums, Songs in the Key of Life, turns 40 years old on Wednesday. 

The 18th album from the decorated artist was released by Motown Records in 1976 and features some of Wonder’s most memorable tracks, including “I Wish,” “Isn’t She Lovely” and “Sir Duke.”    

In October 1976, Songs in the Key of Life shot to number one on the Billboard 200 and spent a total of 82 weeks on the chart. 

The album won two Grammy Awards in 1977 — one for Album of the Year and another for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. The LP was also inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2002 and the Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry in 2005.
