Cleanest City Award

Alexandria wins Statewide Cleanest City Contest

Alexandria, Louisiana—Mayor Jacques M. Roy on behalf of the City of Alexandria accepted the state first place Cleanest City Award from members of the Louisiana Garden Club Federation Inc. Cleanest City Contest on Tuesday, May 26, for the Statewide Cleanest City Region I.

The Mayor said he was happy to receive the award noting that city workers and citizens work hard to help keep Alexandria clean.

The contest began in 1958 and is more than 50 years old. The goal of the contest is to encourage cities around the state to become litter free and make Louisiana a litter-free state.

The district level judging was held in March. The state level judging was held in April with a panel of three judges visiting the participating cities.

This is the second year in a row Alexandria has won the statewide contest. The Federation also presented the City with a Clean City certificate which is given to cities who score higher than 95 during the judging.
