Alicia Keys Inspired by the “Diversity” of Her “We Are Here” Movement

ABC/Lou RoccoAlicia Keys‘ new single is the theme song for here recently launched “We Are Here” movement, and she says she’s thrilled with the global response.

She told Haute Living magazine, “I’m loving the diversity of it. It’s a very diverse group of people who are sharing what they are here for and what their purpose is, and I think it’s incredible.” She adds, “It’s about starting that dialogue and creating that platform so all of our voices can unite in one place. To then take 300,000 voices and go to our leaders and say, ‘300,000 people believe this. Now we have to change it’—it’s powerful, and it shows the way we’re all affected by different things.”

On Tuesday, she held a protest in New York City on Tuesday to raise awareness about the Nigerian schoolgirls who were kidnapped six months ago.

As previously reported, on October 30 she will host her 11th annual Black Ball in New York City to benefit her Keep A Child Alive Foundation which assists children around the world who are threatened by HIV. Fighting AIDs continues to be one of her main goals.

“With AIDS, a lot of time people tend to think that it’s sort of under control,” she says, “but it’s definitely not.”
