Last month, Jazmine Sullivan announced the release of “Forever Don’t Last,” the second single from her first album in four years, Reality Show. Now, she’s unveiled an “open letter,” detailing how the love-sick song came to fruition.

“When writing ‘Forever Don’t Last’ I only focused on the pain coming across in the lyrics and the performance. I think its typical to create a solution or resolution for the listener. Like, ‘Here everyone, I figured it out and [I’m going to] show you the way,'” she writes. “But with this song, I wanted it to be in the moment. Kind of like I was having a conversation with myself and figuring it out one step at a time, which is how real life happens.”

She adds that the song was inspired by personal events in her life. “At the time I was trying to talk myself through my own mess…through my own heartache. I was a woman still in love with a man that I had to emotionally let go of,” she adds.

Jazmine later reveals that she was tempted to “stop singing and go cry through most of it…but instead I just put it all on the song.”

Fans can expect Jazmine’s highly anticipated album, Reality Show, later this year. The set will include her Meek Mill-assisted single “Dumb.”

Meanwhile, Jazmine has announced a string of new tour dates this November across the U.S.

Here are the newly added dates:

11/3 — Chicago, IL, Lincoln Hall
11/8 — Los Angeles, CA, The Roxy Theatre
11/9 — San Francisco, CA, The Chapel
