Jazmine Sullivan has channeled her real life experiences into a powerful ballad called “Forever Don’t Last,” which was inspired by a bad relationship that involved domestic violence.
In an interview with Necole Bitchie TV, the singer candidly revealed for the first time that she was physically and emotionally abused by an ex-boyfriend.
“Well, to be honest I’ll say this because I don’t say it a lot, but I was in a really bad relationship and it became abusive. Physically abusive, emotionally abusive, everything. It was really bad,” she recalls.
The singer adds, “It took me a while to get to the point where I felt like I was better than that. Because I didn’t feel like I was better than that. That’s why I stayed. That’s why a lot of people stay, because they don’t think that they are worthy to not be in a situation like that.”
She reveals that support from her parents helped her to find clarity and she cautions young girls to never settle. “Hopefully my story will help you to realize your worth and notice that you are worthy of everything good and somebody that is bringing you down and pulling you down, that’s not love,” she says. “So you’re worthy of something real.”
Jazmine, who is now happily single, is focused solely on completing her first album in four years, Reality Show.
