Charlie Wilson & Kem Join Essence Festival Lineup

Randee St. Nicholas/RCA RecordsTwo R&B veterans have been added to the 2015 Essence Festival, taking place this summer at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans.

Organizers have announced that Charlie Wilson and Kem are now scheduled to headline the 21st annual event, which runs July 2 through July 5. The show will mark the eighth appearance for Charlie, who’s currently touring alongside Kem and Joe for his “Forever Charlie” tour.

The pair will join previously announced main-stage performers including Usher, Missy Elliot, Kendrick Lamar, Mary J. Blige, Erykah Badu, Common, and India.Arie.

Comedian Kevin Hart will also headlining the festival’s opening “Now Playing” concert with Trey Songz. Other acts for the weekend include Mystikal, Common, Kool Moe Dee, Doug E. Fresh, Slick Rick, Floetry, jazz singer and bassist Esperanza Spalding, Kelly Price, Bilal, Nico & Vinz, Elle Varner, SZA, Raheem DeVaughn, Mali Music, Avery*Sunshine, Kindred the Family Soul, Goapele, Robert Glasper, and Tweet, among many others.
