Jimmy Fontaine/Atlantic RecordsIf you listened to K. Michelle‘s single “Not a Little Bit,” then you might assume that she’s staying within her R&B lane. However, the singer reveals that her third studio effort won’t be like her previous work.
“I want to be able to sing what I want,” she tells Billboard. “If I want to be able to sing country, I want to be able to show that. I want to be able to sing ballads that touch the world and not just one demographic.”
The singer elaborates on making a “non-urban” sounding project. “I’m just not going to be told that because I’m black, I have to do this anymore,” she says. “It’s just a variety of music that feels good.”
Michelle’s upcoming project will be the follow-up to her sophomore album, Anybody Wanna Buy a Heart? So far, she’s logged studio time with T-Pain, Sevyn Streeter and Timbaland as well as songwriters Diane Warren, Ester Dean and Rico Love.
