Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagicMonica got real about Brandy on The Real‘s season premiere episode Monday.
The singer spoke to the talk show’s panel of hosts about the pair’s rumored feud, which stemmed from Brandy’s “chile bye” Instagram diss aimed towards Monica’s “So Gone” video challenge.
“The old me and the new me are two different things. And this journey of self-progression and self-love and empowerment that I’m on…I can’t go backwards,” said Monica, who claimed that she was not bothered by the whole affair.
“I think that that was just a test from God for me, and I’ve always thought that she was one of the most legendary people and has one of the most amazing voices in her runs and riffs.”
When asked if she would work with Brandy again on new music, Monica responded with a yes.
“I would work with her again. It’s never been an easy situation, but the reason that I would do it is because we are from a special elite group. It was her, Aaliyah and myself,” added Monica.
“And it was a very special time where each of us were individuals, we did our own thing and we all made our own mark. And the truth and reality is the only Grammy either of us has is together.”
And Brandy’s response to Monica’s Real interview? A slew of new Instagram hashtags.
“Inspire is the only reason #IAm #IKnowTHEREALStoryThatEverybodyDoesntKnow #NewKeyOnKeyNewMeOnMe #MissSubstance #PositivityIsTheOneThingYouShouldNotFake,” she wrote.
