Celebrated Songwriter and Producer Kashif Saleem Dies

Photo Courtesy of iCare FoundationSix-time Grammy-nominated artist Kashif Saleem died Sunday due of undetermined causes in his Playa del Rey, California residence, according to a statement from his family. He was 59 years old. 

“We are saddened by the passing of our brother. We ask for your thoughts and prayers to be with us at this time, ” siblings Mike and Pam Stitt said. 

Born Michael Jones, Saleem was best known as the producer of Whitney Houston‘s hit track “You Give Good Love,” which became Houston’s first number one R&B single.  

The producer-songwriter also wrote Houston’s “Thinking About You,” having sung vocals for the song as well, and performed a duet with Dionne Warwick on “Reservations for Two.” 

Saleem also worked with Stephanie MillsNona HendryxGloria GaynorThe Four TopsMelba Moore and others.  

Kashif was inducted into the R&B Hall of Fame in 2004 as a “Living Legend” and became the subject of TV One’s award-winning Unsung docuseries in 2015.
