The singer, who makes his lead acting debut in the film, agrees that the story of a music artist trying to juggle his personal life with his professional life definitely hits close to home.
“Art does imitate life in a sense because this is my lifestyle,” Bobby V tells ABC Radio. “Just trying to have a girlfriend, having lady friends on the side. And being an artist and traveling. All of these things and just trying to balance it all at the same time.”
Tangie B. Moore, who serves as the director-writer and executive producer of the film, saysHollywood Hearts is more than just a romantic drama — it’s a step forward for those who want to tell their story.
“I think it’s opening more doors for black filmmakers, female directors, to see that major brands like BET are supporting the films, behind the films,” she says. “I think it’s just continuing to show that we’re breaking down these barriers and we’re getting our content placed.”
For Bobby, the film also will tie in with his new album, Hollywood Hearts, which also will be available on October 8. According to the singer, this new project will be what true fans have been waiting for: real R&B music.
“I want to give people a real R&B album because nobody else is making R&B music like that…R&B is not where it should be at, you know it’s almost becoming extinct,” he says.
Hollywood Hearts airs Saturday, October 8 at 8:00 p.m. on BET.
