Capitol RecordsThere’s been plenty of drama in Mary J. Blige’s life this year, so it’s nice to finally be able to celebrate her music again. The nine-time Grammy-winning singer has just dropped a new single, “Thick of It” – and she’s got a new album coming out before the year’s over.
“This song is so personal it’s almost painful to let it out,” Blige says of “Thick of It” in a statement. “I don’t hold back though, it’s not who I am and there’s no way I am going to start changing now.” The song, co-written by Jazmine Sullivan, is available now at all the usual digital outlets.
As for the album, it’ll be titled Strength of a Woman, and it’s due this year. “We all deal with love and the emotions that we get tangled up in, and we gotta survive, grow and remain honest to our best selves,” Mary says. “I feel that with this song and it’s the first one off this album I’ve been immersing myself in for two years now. Music just saves me no matter what in life is happening.”
One of the things happening in Blige’s life now is her divorce from her husband and manager, Martin “Kendu” Isaacs, announced last July. She also kicks off her King + Queen of Hearts co-headlining tour with Maxwell Nov. 5 in Baltimore.
