Michael Becker / FOXIconic television series Showtime at the Apollo is coming back to the small screen for a two-hour special event this December.
The talent showcase will be hosted by talk-show host and comedian Steve Harvey, who was the long-time host of celebrated series. A number of stars in music and comedy, currently unknown, will join Harvey for the special affair.
A one-hour special will follow in 2017.
The special will feature clips of the New York City venue’s famed Amateur Night. Now in its 82nd year, the Apollo’s live competition is known for having one of the most punishing audiences in the world that will boo a performer at a moment’s notice.
Lauryn Hill, Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson and The Jackson Five are just a few of music’s most celebrated artists whose careers were set in motion on the Amateur Night at the Apollo stage.
“I’m excited to be going back home to the Apollo to celebrate the history of this great theater. I have great memories from my time there, and this is going to be a homecoming party that you won’t want to miss,” said Harvey.
The two-hour Showtime at the Apollo special event will air on December 5 at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
