Songs by The Jackson Five, Prince and N.W.A. Inducted into Grammy Hall of Fame

Courtesy of The Recording AcademyClassic recordings released by The Jackson 5, Prince, N.W.A., and Sly and the Family Stone are among the songs chosen for the 2017 Grammy Hall of Fame thanks to their “qualitative and historical significance.”

The second single by the Jackson 5, 1970’s “ABC,” is being honored, as is Prince’s 1987 landmark double album, Sign O’ the Times.

N.W.A, which was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year, makes the list with their 1988 debut album Straight Outta Compton. The album’s title, and the song of the same name, inspired the name of the legendary rap group’s Oscar-nominated biopic.

Sly and the Family Stone is recognized for their 1969 #1 hit, “Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin).”

“The Grammy Hall Of Fame represents all genres of music, acknowledging the diversity of musical expression for which The Academy has become renowned,” says Recording Academy president Neil Portnow. “Memorable and inspiring, these recordings are proudly added to our growing catalog and are an integral part of our musical, social, and cultural history.”

Songs are eligible for the Grammy Hall of Fame 25 years after release.
