Jacob Latimore Makes a Musical “Connection” on His Debut Album

Vegas GiovanniJacob Latimore wants fans to feel the Connection with his new album, which he believes has the potential to stand the test of time.

Latimore, who produced his first song, “Best Friend,” at the age of nine, says R&B music was the foundation for Connection, his official full-length debut after a string of mixtapes.

“R&B music being the foundation of where I am and who I’m influenced by, I definitely wanted my first album to sort of mirror that,” Latimore tells ABC Radio, but he adds that he wanted the album to sound contemporary too. “Be trendy, but also you can still play these songs a couple years from now,” he says.

In addition to his smooth, upbeat R&B sound, the singer-actor infuses hip-hop into the tracks which he describes as part of his “Atlanta Vibes.”

“On this project I really went with the R&B sound, but it still kind of got some of those hip-hop elements to it because hip-hop and R&B are sort of messed together now,” he says.

For the 22-year-old who is featured in Will Smith‘s upcoming film, Collateral Beauty, the goal is to make “timeless” music that fans of all ages can relate to.

“I kept some songs in there where it still has that Michael Jackson timeless feel with the music too because I feel like I’m that type of artist,” he says.

Connection drops December 9.
