Mary J. Blige, JAY-Z, Idris Elba & more nominated for 49th NAACP Image Awards

ABC/Ida Mae AstuteA number of exciting acts have been announced as nominees for the 49th NAACP Image Awards.  

In music Mary J. Blige and JAY-Z lead the list of nominees in music with five each, followed by four nominations apiece for Kendrick Lamar, SZA and Bruno Mars

Charlie Wilson and Ledisi also earned three nominations each. 

Ledisi is up against Beyoncé, Mary J., SZA and Andra Day in the Outstanding Female Artist category, while Kendrick and Jay face off in several different music categories, including Outstanding Male Artist and Outstanding Album.   

In film, Idris Elba leads with three nominations, with Netflix and OWN leading in the TV categories.

JAY-Z is also up for the Entertainer of the Year award, along with A Wrinkle in Time director Ava DuVernay, Bruno Mars, Captain America: Civil War actor Chadwick BosemanChance the Rapperand Insecure creator and star Issa Rae.   

In the categories of film and TV, Jill Scott and Queen Latifah are both up for awards in the Outstanding Actress in a Television Movie, Limited-Series or Dramatic Special for their roles in Lifetime’s Flint, while LL Cool J gains a nod in the Outstanding Host in a Reality/Reality Competition, Game Show or Variety (Series or Special) – Individual or Ensemble category for his work on Lip Sync Battle.

In addition, BET’s The New Edition Story is up for an Outstanding Television Movie, Limited — Series or Dramatic Special award. 

The 49th NAACP Image Awards, hosted by Anthony Anderson, air live Monday, January 15 at 9 p.m. ET on TV One.
