Kandi Burruss says songwriting for Whitney Houston is one experience she holds “dear to my heart”

DeWayne Rogers/Monami EntertainmentKandi Burruss is well-known for being a member of Xscape as well as one of the stars of the hit reality TV series, Real Housewives of Atlanta. But what fans may not know is that she’s also written songs for some of music’s biggest acts, including TLC, Destiny’s Child and even the late Whitney Houston.

On Wednesday, she told Live with Kelly and Ryan host Kelly Ripa and special guest co-host Andy Cohen, “I’ve had a lot of memorable experiences, but I guess because Whitney is no longer here with us, I would have to say that’s one of the ones that I hold dear to my heart.”

Kandi also has written songs for Donna Summer, but her experience with the disco music icon was quite memorable in a different way. She explains, “We were writing together [me, my friend Annie and Donna] and so I was trying to tell her [Donna] something and I felt like, ‘Eh, maybe we should change this.’

“And Annie said, ‘Maybe we should listen to Kandi. She’s new school.’ And then Donna said to me, ‘Hmmm. OK, new school.’

Now, Kandi is gearing up for a new memorable experience in her life: her Broadway debut in the Tony award-winning musical Chicago. She begins her journey on the Great White Way January 15 until March 11. For information on tickets, visit ChicagotheMusical.com
