Mary J. Blige, ‘Get Out’ Receive Academy Awards Nominations

Mary J. Blige has picked up her first Academy Award nominations, including a nod for Supporting Actress, for her role in Mudbound. Blige stars as Florence Jackson in director Dee Rees’s movie about two men soldiers, one black one white, who return to rural Mississippi after fighting in World War II. Blige is also up for Best Original Song. “Mighty River” appears on the soundtrack to Mudbound. Best actor nominees include “Get Out” star Daniel Kaluuya and “Roman J. Israel, Esq.’s” Denzel Washington. “Get Out” writer/director Jordan Peele earned two nominations – for original screenplay and achievement in directing, while the film itself is among the nine nominees for best picture.
