Blackground/Virgin RecordsAaliyah fans will soon be able to get their hands on MAC cosmetics’ makeup collection inspired by the R&B icon.
The global brand has unveiled the official packaging for, and one of the lipstick shades from, the MAC Aaliyah collection on Instagram.
The caption reads, “Guess which song inspired this color? Here’s a sneak peek at the MAC Aaliyah collection, coming soon! Aaliyah’s legacy continues to inspire fans — and now this shade! #AaliyahForMAC.”
The late singer’s Twitter account also revealed the exciting news, and release date for the makeup range, on Twitter Monday.
“Aaliyah super-fans everywhere — YOU made it happen! Inspired by your loyalty and love, the 90s-glam @maccosmetics Aaliyah collection launches in North America online June 20th, in-stores on June 21st and rolls out Internationally this Summer! #AaliyahForMAC.”
That same Twitter account also unleashed a first look at an eye shadow palette, featuring “sultry hues” from the Aaliyah collection.
As previously noted, MAC — known for collaborating with artists like Nicki Minaj, Rihanna and Mariah Carey — announced its Aaliyah makeup line in August via Instagram.
The decision to create the collection may have been inspired by a fan-made petition calling for an Aaliyah/MAC makeup line.
The petition, created in 2015 on Change.org, attracted over 26,000 signatures.
2017 marked 16 years since Aaliyah Haughton died in a plane crash in the Bahamas at age 22.
Posthumous MAC collections have also commemorated actress Marilyn Monroe and singer Selena.
As previously reported, another makeup brand, Melt Cosmetics, has plans to release an eye shadow line inspired by the late superstar.
That collection, called “Baby Girl,” is coming soon.
