ABC/Rick RowellAfter receiving two Oscar nominations for Mudbound — one for music and the other for her acting — Mary J. Blige is now set to land her first headlining role, as a police officer in the horror thriller Body Cam, Variety reports.
The movie is described as a story about several Los Angeles police officers who are haunted by an evil spirit after a black youth is murdered by two white cops. After the incident was recorded by a body cam but the video destroyed, Blige’s character sees visions and investigates the cover-up.
Body Cam is described as a blend of Jordan Peele’s Academy Award-winning Get Out, and the 2012 police drama, End of Watch.
In addition to Body Cam, Blige has also joined the cast of the Netlfix superhero series, Umbrella Academy.
