Following a settlement in his legal battle with Cash Money Records, Lil Wayne took to social media this week to make the announcement that his new release, Tha Carter V will drop at midnight on Friday, September 28, in celebration of his 36th birthday. “On my birthday, I actually have something special. I will be releasing Tha Carter V on my birthday,” Wayne says. “Y’all hung in there with me, so I can’t do nothing but thank y’all for all the love and all the passion and every ounce of anything.” Wayne also said there’s even a website for the album — ThaCarterV.com — which is currently counting down the Friday release. The announcement follows Wayne’s lengthy legal battle with Birdman and Cash Money Records. He sued Cash Money for $51 million in 2015. This June, both sides reached a settlement for an undisclosed amount. Tha Carter V will be the first Wayne album not under Cash Money.
