(ABC/Jeff Neira)Ahead of his upcoming film The Intruder with Meagan Goode, Michael Ealy is dishing on the film’s steamy sex scenes and how his wife of almost seven years, Khatira Rafiqzada, isn’t bothered by his intimate roles.
In a recent episode of Essence‘s Yes, Girl! podcast, Ealy reveals that his wife is pretty cool about his sex scenes to the point where she even jokes about the possibility of doing her own steamy scenes one day.
“My wife on the other hand is like ‘When can I make out with somebody?’” Ealy says laughing. “And I’m like, ‘Well, if you get paid for it, I’m cool. I ain’t made out for free yet.’”
Ealy then tells a story about how his wife helped to ease the tension when she was in the presence of his past co-star Sanaa Lathan, who had shared numerous intimate scenes with him.
“I remember [this time] at The Perfect Guy premiere – and this is one of the reasons I’m with her, because she’s just cool about that kind of stuff– and Sanaa was sitting in front of us and the sex scene comes on,” he recalls. “You can see Sanaa start to sink in her chair… because she has met my wife, [who is] right behind her. So Sanaa’s freaking out, and my wife just puts her hand on her shoulder and goes, ‘Awkwaaarrdd!’
“And Sanaa just busted out laughing,” he continues. “And I was like, ‘Oh my gosh.’ [But] that’s her sense of humor and it’s all good.”
Ealy says he appreciates his wife levelheadedness about the demands of his job as an actor.
“I had relationships prior to [my wife] and they took issue with it,” he says. “They couldn’t handle it.”
The Intruder is now in theaters.
