Courtesy of PoeticsOmari Hardwick is finally able to breathe a sigh of relief, now that he no longer has to keep the difficult secret that his hit Starz show Power is coming to an end.
“I knew in the beginning of the season,” Hardwick reveals to ABC Radio. “So, you know, if they ever wondered whether I can hold a secret or not…”
On the show, Hardwick plays James “Ghost” St. Patrick, a New York drug kingpin looking for a way out of the crime world.
“My… baby sister lost her mind yesterday,” he continues, referring to Thursday’s announcement about the fate of the show. “My actual sister was like, ‘How did you hide that from us?'”
As for when he first learned the news, Hardwick reveals, “I would have known pre-season, so that would have to be the summer of last year. So, we’re almost at a full year that I knew.”
In fact, Hardwick admits he knew the show was ending before “the rest of the cast.”
“They know when they know,” Hardwick explains, referring to the cast. “[But] Courtney [Kemp] and [50 Cent] will let me know certain things that others don’t know.”
Although Power is coming to an end, Starz has confirmed that Kemp and 50 are currently working on Power spinoffs, including a prequel featuring 50’s Power character, Kanan. That prequel is also expected to feature a young Ghost. While Hardwick thinks he may be too old for that role, he’s always up for a challenge.
“If 50 feels that I can play to 20-year old, if Courtney feels I can play the 20 year old. I would absolutely consider it,” he says. “How would I not consider playing with his family that I’ve called family for so long.
He adds, “But.. Being an ex-sportsman I’m always game.”
Power returns Sunday, August 15.
