Eric Charbonneau/SHOWTIMELena Waithe is opening up about her relationship with her former The Chi star Jason Mitchell, who was terminated from the series after his alleged harassment of his co-stars.
Waithe tells ABC Audio that she’s not against working with Mitchell again– if the right opportunity presents itself.
“I think it really just sort of depends on the work that takes place, and that kind of stuff,” she says. “It’s really a hard thing to speak to, to be honest, because, you know, only time will really tell like what happens.”
As previously reported, Mitchell, who plays Brandon on The Chi, had been accused of harassing multiple co-stars on set, including Tiffany Boone, who played his girlfriend on the series. The actor was subsequently fired from the show in May, and was also fired from two upcoming projects in which he was set to star. He was also dropped from his talent agency and his management company. Then in August, Showtime’s co-president of entertainment Gary Levine revealed that Mitchell would be killed off from the series.
Waithe says the entire ordeal has taught her a lot about herself and working with others.
“But, I know I’m growing. I’m learning,” she said. “You know, I’ve learned so much from that whole experience. And, I just know that my sets are always going to be a safe place for anyone that wants to come and work, because that’s really how I get down.”
“I never want to be overseeing a show where folks can’t come into work and feel good about themselves,” she adds.
Season three of The Chi is set to return in 2020.
