“That is not my Instagram. Someone is impersonating me. I am not the girl who would betray him,” she says in the video, posted by TMZ. “We have a bond that is so special … that no one can ever break. I would never in a million years hurt him like that — I would never do that.”
“I am not going to be part of the assassination of R. Kelly’s name, music career and his character,” Savage continues. “Please free him and let him come home in peace.”
As previously reported, a person claiming to be Savage announced in an Instagram post that she started a page on the Patreon paid membership platform to share her story that she was a victim of Kelly’s sexual and psychological abuse. The person wrote that Kelly choked her and “[kept] me locked up like some damn animal.”
The Patreon account was soon shut down due to “potential impersonation.”
Gerald Griggs, attorney for the Savage family, told TMZ, “Although we can now verify that it wasn’t [Jocelyn’s] account, the allegations still remain. These are allegations that our own independent investigation found to be accurate and closely match the details listed in four indictments against Mr. Kelly.”
On Wednesday, a tentative trial date of September 14 was set for Kelly’s s sex abuse trial in Cook County, Illinois. He faces four separate indictments accusing him of sexual misconduct. Three of the four alleged victims were underage at the time.
The three-time Grammy winner is already scheduled to go on trial in April on conspiracy charges in Chicago, and the following month in Brooklyn, New York for alleged racketeering.
