Michael Kovac/Getty Images for AFI Mara Brock Akil is taking her talents to FOX.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Akil has inked a network-direct script deal with Fox Entertainment that will include a new scripted series.

As part of the deal, The Game and Black Lightning co-creator will develop and write a scripted series for FOX, which will be produced exclusively in-house to air on the network.

“Mara is a truly gifted writer, with a strong point of view,” said Fox entertainment president Michael Thorn in a statement. “From Girlfriends to The Game to Being Mary Jane, she’s a proven hitmaker with the unique ability to write both comedy and drama. Since the formation of Fox Entertainment, we’ve said we want to be in business with the best and the brightest, and no one exemplifies that more than Mara Brock Akil.”

Mara’s new deal comes on the heels of the recent announcement that The CW is developing a second revival of Akil’s 2006 sitcom The Game.  Akil will return as the writer and executive producer, while American Soul creator Devon Greggory will serve as the showrunner.
