Legendary gospel singer Bebe Winans opened up about his recovery experience after contracting the coronavirus. Billboard reported he called into The Joe Madison Show to share his experience, even though he initially thought “That can’t happen to me,” not taking the outbreak seriously.

“Sometimes, for some reason, we as a people when we look in and we look at television and various things that’s going on around us, we somehow say, that can’t happen to me for some reason,” he shared. “I don’t know why, but sometimes we believe that, and even myself being cautious when the outbreak started…and just that little travel, I caught it.”

Despite suggested travel restrictions, Winans recalled still traveling to Detroit and New York for a funeral last month, telling people on Instagram not to be driven by fear of the virus’ impact.

He went on to mention his mother and brother also caught the virus. “God, I thank you,” Winans declared, being grateful to have recovered from the virus that has caused over 12,000 deaths across the nation.

“I’ve learned to be more grateful for life itself, he said. “Forget about homes and automobiles and all these things. You can’t take none of that. That means nothing to you when your health is gone.”

Winans added he will continue to keep his mind and spirit moving while in quarantine.
