Tinashe and Mary J. Blige are among the acts that appear on Rolling Stones‘ 20 Best R&B Albums of 2014 list.
Tinashe’s Aquarius, which came in at #3, behind FKA Twig‘s LP1 and Prince‘s Art Official Age. The publication described the album as “feathery R&B” mixed with a “new toughness” that has earned Tinashe’s Janet Jackson comparisons.
Toni Braxton & Babyface‘s Love Marriage & Divorce came in at #5, with the magazine praising the album for its lush vocals and “tender apologies.” Mary’s London Sessions secured the #6 position because, says Rolling Stone, it “convincingly encompasses doo-wop, classic soul, deep house and gospel.”
Rounding out the top ten are Kelis‘ Food, at #7 and Shlohmo & Jeremih‘s joint EP, No More, at #9.
