Interscope RecordsElla Mai has risen from number five to the top spot on Billboard‘s Emerging Artists chart.
Her hit track, “Boo’d Up” and her EP Ready, which debuted at number 12 on Billboard‘s R&B Albums chart this week, have both contributed to Ella’s success.
“Boo’d Up” is currently number 37 on the Hot 100 chart, but as previously reported, Ella told Billboard that no one on her team, much less her, thought “Boo’d Up” would be a hit.
“We released ‘Boo’d Up’ a year ago now, on my third EP. None of us thought this song could possibly have a rebirth,” Ella said.
“I feel like it’s God’s time and I can’t really question it. But we’re extremely excited and grateful that everything is happening the way it’s happening.”
The music video for “Boo’d Up” is out now.

Ella Mai is currently working on her as-yet untitled debut album, executive-produced by DJ Mustard.
