Walt Disney Television/Paula LoboChance the Rapper lives up to his self-proclaimed title as the number one fan of Drumline in a quiz challenge with the film’s star, Nick Cannon.
The longtime friends faced off in Billboard’s Quizzed, the web show that sees musical artists paired up with the stars of their favorite films and television shows.
The 2002 film, set at the fictitious Atlanta A&T University, starred Cannon as Devon Miles, a musician from New York City competing to make the school’s prestigious marching band. Orlando Jones co-starred as the band leader, Dr. Lee, and Zoe Saldana portrayed Devon’s girlfriend, Laila.
“I’m telling you, yo, this movie changed my life. It’s the reason why I make music,” Chance revealed to Cannon in the session. “I gotta drum kit like literally two weeks later.”
Answering a variety of trivia questions in three separate rounds, Chance — who first saw the film in 2002, when he was nine years old — impressed Cannon with this thorough knowledge of Drumline.
Wen Nick asked, “Where do Laila and Devon have their first kiss?” Chance knew all the details.
“They go to a college party where her sorority are stepping at,” Chance replies. Nick reminisced about the romantic scene, recalling, “Alicia Keys comes on…I got nominated for an MTV Award for that kiss. The Sigma party.”
After Chance answered nearly every question correctly to an amazed Nick, Cannon awarded him a set of drumsticks. Chance screamed in excitement, ”Are you kidding?”
Nick signed the sticks as his character, Devon Miles, and ended the session drumming and freestyling as Chance admired his skills.
