Daniel Knighton/WireImageMacy Gray may have tried to walk away from her 1999 hit single, “I Try,” but she stumbled right back into updating the track for her next album, Stripped. The re-imagined version of the song will appear on the jazz-inspired album, which will be released in stores and digitally on September 9.
When asked about recording her tenth album, Gray told ELLE.com that it “was such a completely unexpected but refreshing and fun thing to do. …We bunkered up in an abandoned church in Brooklyn and just started laying down some of my favorite songs from over the years.”
Macy’s fans can also look forward to an eleventh album from the R&B-soul singer early next year. “That one will have no jazz and no covers but will be just as awesome,” she says.
Stripped is available now to pre-order.
