Island Def JamIt’s been almost two weeks since Frank Ocean‘s long-awaited sophomore album, Boys Don’t Cry, was reportedly scheduled to drop. As his fans sulk in despair and anger, the artist’s producer, Malay, gave an explanation for Ocean’s mysterious delay in a Reddit Ask Me Anything” discussion Monday night.
“First of all we all massively appreciate and love you guys, Frank has told me this himself many times,” Malay writes. “To be fair tho, art cannot be rushed. It’s about making sure the perfect aesthetic for the situation has been reached, to do that, takes constant tweaking, trial and error..That goes for any creative situ[a]tion.”
Ocean has been teasing his fans since 2014 with messages plus cryptic videos and photos on his website and social media account, leading up to his supposed next album’s release date. Last week, Frank Ocean began to trend on Twitter prior to and on the date that Boys Don’t Cry was expected to be released — August 5.
