Mireya Acierto/WireImageJanelle Monáe has lost a relative to gun violence in Kansas City, Kansas.
The singer on Wednesday remembered her cousin, Natasha Hays, in a series of tweets.
“Gun violence has struck home. My beautiful 1st cousin was murdered. She was a mother of 3. Loved by her community. #NatashaHays #sayhername,” Monáe, who’s from Kansas City, Kansas, wrote in one tweet.
“#KansasCity #Gunviolence is still keeping our city in a dark place. The fear of ‘who is next?’ never leaves. Praying4more light. Help us,” she added. “Nobody deserves to lose their mother, sister, cousin, friend, etc to the hands of evil. Evil has no race. #Gunviolence #NatashaHays.”
The Kansas City Star reports Hays was killed in a drive-by shooting early Tuesday morning. Conflicting reports have Hays’ age between 36 and 38.
