“When I took that time off, everything marinated and I reflected on what had happened. That’s why it’s such an important thing for me to express it through music. But there isn’t any story I could tell you that ‘this happened’ or ‘this happened,'” Sande tells Billboard.
The Brit award-winning singer also says retreating from the spotlight was another a factor in the creation of Long Live the Angels.
“It was more a decision that I needed a bit of isolation to write this album and get it to the depths that I wanted to take it to,” she says.
With her new album on the horizon, Sandé is steadily moving past heartbreak with plans for a third and a spring tour, though she admits she was hesitant to jump back into touring.
“There was definitely a point where I thought, ‘Do I want to get back out there and do all of this?’ But performing live is a big love of mine. It felt right to get back out there and do it,” she says.
