Nabil ElderkinThe Weeknd‘s newly released album, Starboy, features a number of notable collaborations, including one with electronic music duo Daft Punk on the hit single “I Feel It Coming.”
In a recent interview with Zane Lowe, The Weeknd talked about meeting Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo of the duo in Paris to work on the single and how they started to create the retro-sounding track.
“So I came in, we went to Paris. I came into the session and Thomas and Guy-Manuel had already started a track, which was ‘I Feel It Coming,’which was just the music,” said The Weeknd.
“And it was one of the tracks that they were playing for me and I was freestyling over it, trying to find a vibe with it. You know, Guy-Manuel and Thomas were kind of directing me on how to make it…’cause they want it to sound as authentic as possible,” The Weeknd added.
The superstar also linked up with a fellow Grammy award-winning artist for the album — Kendrick Lamar — on the track, “Sidewalks,” and proceeded to share his admiration of the rapper’s work ethic and musical prowess.
“He’s a genius. He is really a genius,” said Weeknd.
“He would just walk around — you know we had food, he’s writing his verse in his head. He’d go into his phone; look at it a few, you know, and then put it back in, start walking around….At one point, went into the studio booth and closed the door and I can hear him yelling his verse in his head.”
